Volunteers are the backbone of Rainbow Place. Our volunteers give hundreds of hours serving dinner, making casseroles, bag lunches, cleaning, processing donations and doing handy work around the shelter.

You can volunteer to serve in the evening as an individual or as a group (groups can be no more than five people per evening). If you are under the age of 18, you must be accompanied by a parent in order to volunteer.

The forms for the 2008-2009 season will be sent out on September 1, 2008.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for the next season, please contact us at 301-762-3363 or via email at rainbow@rainbowplace.org.

We have volunteers work shifts every evening from November 1 through March 31. An evening shift begins at 6:30pm and ends at 9:30pm. All volunteers must be able to climb stairs.  We ask a minimum of a once a month commitment for our volunteers.

Responsibilities Include:
• Provide our clients with the best services possible.
• Treat the women with kindness and compassion.
• Make an appealing and nutritious dinner for the women.
• Make lunches as complete and appetizing as possible.
• Keep coffee cart filled and water and juice available.
• Clean-up the kitchen.
• Assist staff in processing donations.
• Assist staff in providing toiletries, clothing, towels, linens.

You can volunteer your time by offering to make casseroles once a month for our dinners. Casseroles should be able to feed 25-30 people and can be of any variety. They can be delivered either hot or frozen. For a list of casserole suggestions, please click here.  If you are interested or want more information, contact us at rainbow@rainbowplace.org.

Rainbow Place provides a bag lunch for every woman each morning of our season. You and your group can give time to Rainbow Place by making bag lunches. These lunches can come in many varieties and is a project that suits most every age group. Please click here further information.

Rainbow Place Staff provide quality care with kindness and compassion. Staff must be able maintain a calm, safe and caring environment for the women of Rainbow Place. We have two staff members working every night from November 1 through March 31. A staff shift begins at 6:30pm and ends the next day at 7:30am. All staff must be age 21 or over and must be able to climb stairs.

While staff members are paid a small stipend, working at Rainbow is not considered a part time job. Anyone of strong heart, strong resolve to share amenities and altruistic commitment to serve others before self can work here successfully. We do this because we want to care for these women who need us and also because it is what needs to be done.
